"La Wally" aria "Ebben, Ne Andro Lontana"

I've been to two powerful movies in my life that used this aria strategically in the background to great effect. This is such an emotional and moving piece for vocal music and exemplifies why the human voice cannot be match ed by any instrument!

  1. Several people have already written me privately to ask what the two movies referred to earlier were: One was a great movie from the 1980's called "Diva." I'll never forget how powerful this aria was in the context of this movie. YouTube says "The whole movie is about an opera singer, played by Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez, who refuses to let her singing be recorded. The bad guys record her voice, and our hero tries to get the recording back for his idol, the diva.

This is "Ebben? Ne andrĂ² lontana", from Catalani's opera "La Wally."

It was my favorite movie of the 1980s. It's very original and quite trippy."

The other movie I saw just the other day. It's called "A Single Man." It is also used in a very moving and powerful way in this film and I highly recommend it!

I listened to several performances - and I liked Callas the least! I'm surprised...
